For Beth (2006)
Jessica Feldman

interactive audio and video performance piece using live and pre-recorded video, voice, earplugs for the performer, Max/MSP/jitter patch

A video ‘score’ was prepared, made up of a collage of previously shot footage of the performer’s mouth as she is vocalizing. In performance, she vocalizes into the lens of a video camera, and the live images and sounds are superimposed over the pre-recorded ones using jitter. She performs with her ears plugged. Her task is to match the images as quickly and accurately as possible, to imagine the sounds that correspond to the pre-recorded image and to vocalize these sounds as she imagines them.

Performed by Beth Griffith, soprano
